Free LiveMeeting account for every User Group Leader

We are delighted to be able to announce that in collaboration with Microsoft, INETA APAC is able to offer a free LiveMeeting account to every User Group Leader. We hope that this will prove to be invaluable to you in helping you to run successful meetings, especially when it is not possible to get all of your members to attend the same location at the same time.

This account will provided to you specifically for use within your user group and for the benefit of your user group. Once given your account, you will be provided with a user name and password which you must keep confidential. Only you as the user group leader will be able to schedule meetings, although of course any of your members will be able to join and even run them once set up. Please note that although you will receive a LiveMeeting account with its many benefits, you will not be provided with a telephone conferencing facility - you may use your own if you have one, and LiveMeeting has the ability to provide audio conferencing through any PC which has a speaker and microphone.

Some of the many advantages that you LiveMeeting account will provide include:-

  • The ability to share both audio and video with anyone connected to the internet who has the LiveMeeting client software (a free download) installed.
  • The ability to present both Powerpoint presentations and anything on your desktop to the meeting attendees.
  • The ability to collaborate on documents and other content.
  • The ability to record presentations and events and make them available for review at a later date and time.

MICROSOFT LIVE MEETING FOR USER GROUP LEADERS: FAQ

What is Microsoft Office Live Meeting?
Microsoft Office Live Meeting is an online meeting space to which your organization subscribes. With Microsoft Office Live Meeting, you can meet with your colleagues online, which allows you to collaborate in real time, even over long distances.

What do I need to do before I start?
If you simply want to join a meeting that someone else scheduled, you can cllick the Join the meeting link in the email invitation. Live Meeting will prompt you if any software installation is needed. If you want to schedule meetings or start a Meet Now meeting on demand, you first need to configure your account information. See the procedure "To configure you account" in "
Starting an Instant Meet Now Meeting" in the Getting Started guide.

Why do I see a section for "Server" in the account configuration dialog box?
Some organizations host meetings on their internal servers, and others subscribe to the Office Live Meeting service. Your administrator will give you the information you need to configure Live Meeting for the service. You can leave the Server section blank if it does not apply to you.

How do I know if I have the meeting client installed?
You can determine if the Microsoft Office Live Meeting client is installed on your computer by clicking Start, clicking All Programs, and then looking in the program list for Microsoft Office Live Meeting 2007.

What if I cannot install the meeting client?
With the Microsoft Office Live Meeting service, you can join a meeting even if you are unable to install the meeting client on your computer. If you do not have the meeting client installed and you try to join the meeting, Microsoft Office Live Meeting will display an option for connecting to the meeting using a Web browser. There are some limitations to connecting this way (see
Appendix A), but most of the meeting features are available to you.

I want to schedule a Live Meeting, but some of the people I want to include will not have access to a computer. Can they still participate in the meeting?
Although people without a computer won't be able to see the meeting, they can still participate in the audio portion of the meeting. With the Microsoft Office Live Meeting service, you can set up a meeting to use both computer audio and telephone conferencing. The meeting organizer must choose both of these audio options when scheduling the meeting. Then, when the meeting starts, any presenter can connect the audio, so that computer users and telephone conferencing users can hear each other. For more details, see "Creating a Meeting" later in this guide.

Does my user group need to be a member of Culminis or INETA to get this offer?
No. Culminis and INETA are managing the accounts for us, and we would strongly recommend you consider joining either organization, but it's not a requirement.

How do I get support if I have a problem?
The Live Meeting accounts will be managed by the MVP Program, however support will be available via web and telephone, 24 hours a day 7 days a week at no charge to you, the MVP, or to those attending the Live Meeting.

Malaysia
  • MIND 6th anniversary

Mind turned 6th ...... As part of Malaysia Independent Developers (MIND) Community 6th Anniversary, the MIND team spear-headed by MIND President and Visual C# MVP Chua Wen Ching organized and celebrated MIND 6th birthday.

One hundred and sixty MIND current members and industry .NET software developers gathered at the Golden Screen Cinema in 1 Utama (New Wing) n Petaling Jaya to celebrate and witness this meaningful milestone of MIND.

The session started off with a hearty welcome by MIND President Chua Wen Ching and MC for the day, Sheng Shin. This was followed by a string of mind boggling techical sessions delivered by industry speakers, peppered with anecdotes and sharing by the experts.

The evening concluded with a special sneak preview of the blockbuster movie 'Cloverfield' as well as a burst of fun as lucky draws were conducted, with presentation of prizes and mystery gifts. ('Cloverfield' movie is not recommended for people with motion sickness and a sensitive stomach.)

As quoted by MIND President Chua Wen Ching, 'It was fun, exciting and challenging. It was MIND's 1st event to have both technical tracks and movie in the cinema. There were hic cups along the way but I am confidence that the MIND Team can manage better in coming events. MIND is not just another community. We are not online based anymore. Other than having events in usual venue, why not have it something different? Thanks to our sponsors for supporting and believing in me. Lets create a better place for Microsoft developers'.

Kudos to Microsoft Malaysia Team (Sheng Shin Chia, Poh Sze Lim, Hong Chiang Moy, Jeff Low and Ian Su) for suporting this important milestone of MIND.

Special thanks also goes out to MVPs (Fun Jin Lim, Chiu Kiang Phua and Wei Min Chan) for attending this special occasion! And a big 'Thank You' to organizer - MIND President Chua Wen Ching who handled the task of shepherding 160 MIND members with great panache and patience. It was truly an experience to remember!
